I would like to start out by stating that this information is only my opinion which is based on information I have read about natural health and from more than a decade of eating and living the way I have daily. Couple that with my blood work done twice each year which reveals zero deficiencies, I think this information is very valuable and of course valid. It could be that it just works for me, my genetic makeup and my body type, I can’t say for sure. But, just like smoking tobacco definitely will have an affect on each of us with varying degrees of health negatives, the green smoothie diet, I feel, definitely will have an affect on each of us with various degrees of health positives. The human body was designed to be able to heal naturally right? If that’s the case, why are people sick? Perhaps it is in inaccurate statement that the body is truly designed to heal itself? No! The dilemma is that people today a) do not provide the body with the correct amount of raw materials, usually by way of diet, it requires to reset itself and b) we constantly bombard it with stuff that hinders the functionality of the limited number of resources that we do give it.
I’m a big advocate of raw foods. The suggestion that adding heat to food over a certain temperature destroying much needed enzymes that are significant to assimilation makes plenty of sense to me. Further, it is advised that to get the most from our foods we must chew it until it’s completely liquefied. We have troubles handling big chunks of food. Also, I strongly believe that people can survive and thrive off of a diet of mainly fruits and green vegetables, with the occasional healthy fats. For the healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I eat.
My main meals every single day consist of plenty of raw fruits and green vegetables in the form of green smoothies. Smoothies, being essentially liquefied, my body is able to assimilate the nutrients without a problem.
A huge hurdle for some when switching diets, and a big one for myself is coping with cravings for unhealthy foods. Just like a person that has addiction to drugs or alcohol must go through a detox in order to heal, we pretty much have to do a similar thing. The cells in our body are comprised of stuff from foods that we have ingested in the past. The body usually craves much of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the makings of each of the sick cells in our bodies. For drug detoxes, many times, sauna therapy is used to removes the drugs through perspiration. This could help eliminate the physical cravings which will allow the person a better chance of staying sober. For us, improving our eating will influence the elimination of toxic foods as well which can be naturally removed in our poop, through sweat and urine. However, we still might crave those foods while some of the contaminants in our cells are still present.
I find that right away after having the first drink of my smoothie my cravings for greasy foods, meat, sweets, salt, etc began to calm. After I was finished drinking the smoothie, the cravings passed completely and I would be fulfilled. The issue then was that the unhealthy cravings would come back as I grew hungry. So I started to make certain I was on top of it and would have another green smoothie prepared before the cravings would reoccur, or shortly after they reared their ugly heads. The unhealthy cravings in due course subsided for good as I became healthier. Then I began to crave greens instead!
