You can start losing weight by cutting calories from your diet each day. The question is how many do you need to cut or burn to see results. For most, you can drop a pound a week by simply eliminating an average of 500 calories from your diet each day. A simple way to do this is by replacing or substituting a few food items a day and you can lose approximately 10 pounds in just 5 weeks! Here are some tips you can follow that might just do the trick for you:

Get enough sleep. A lack of sleep can make you snack, researchers found that people who got on average only 5 1/2 hours of sleep had a tendency to snack more during the day. Snacking does not make up for lost sleep, so you can avoid calories by getting a good night’s sleep.

Substitute the starchy veggies. Yams, carrots as well as squash and tubers have more calories than green vegetables. So, choose for the broccoli and green beans next time and save some calories.

Salad with less Dressing. A salad is a healthy choice, but once you add the salad dressing and extra toppings, you have changed your salad into a high calorie, fat meal. Cheese crumbles, caramelized nuts, bacon, avocado, croutons, and creamy vinaigrettes can add lots of calories. Save 500 or more calories by adding toppings such as roasted bell peppers, grilled onions, or cucumbers, and using half the dressing or substitute with vinegar and oil.

Hold the whipped cream. Coffee drinks that are more like dessert creations can contain as many as 670 + calories, with large, extra large cup sizes, whipped cream, whole milk, and sugary syrups. If your going to enjoy one of these drinks, hold the whipped cream and try a smaller sized drink. Save even more calories by ordering just a coffee, latte or chai.

Drink Water. A 12-ounce soda has about 150 to 180 calories. If you are used to drinking two to three a day you can cut calories by drinking water instead. But, if you miss the flavor, try drinking a sugar-free soda and limit your alcohol, dairy and juices.

Eat less pasta. One cup of pasta is just 220 calories. But typical dinner portions at restaurants can be as much as quadruple that amount. That’s 1,056 calories. Even if you eat 2 whole cups of noodles, you’ll still save 616 calories.

Reduce your Meat portions. Often meat portions tend to be more than you need. This is true especially in restaurant, 3 – 6 ounces is plenty. Focus on the source, flavor, and quality, not quantity.

Avoid eating while watching TV. You’ll eat up to an average of 278 calories more, by snacking while watching Television, before you know it, you finished a bag of chips meant for the whole family. Walk the dog in exchange for 1 hour of TV and avoid eating while watching.

How to Lose 10 Pounds Through Diet and Exercise

 

If you took a poll of people anywhere, on the streets, on a college campus, in the superstore, or maybe at church you are sure to find the majority of USA citizens desire to lose pounds. Some want to lose lots of weight, but many just wish to lose those last ten pounds.

If this sounds like you – don’t worry! You CAN do it, with some simple tips and pointers, and taking action. There is no magic pill that is going to solve your problems overnight, so I recommend not wasting your time only to be let down. There are tried and true ways to lose that weight. But, you must reduce calories while increasing exercise. Stop overeating and get off your butt! It really is that simple.

To shed weight quickly, try joining an intense cardiovascular fitness program. Running, cycling, biking, rowing, swimming, and hiking all fit into this – so don’t think you are stuck with a boring class somewhere. Sunshine is good for you – so get moving and get out in it! Walking is good, but it will take much longer to get the results that you want than the heart pumping exercises mentioned above.

Cut back on calorie consumption, too. This can easily be done by simple things like picking green tea (unsweetened) or water over sodas and vitamin waters. With many sodas racking in at around 200-250 calories, you can see how quickly this can add up if you drink a couple a day, or even a few a week.

To lose pounds fast, you need to cut out almost all of your sugar, too. The calories you take in should be ones full of nutrients. Candy such as cookies and cakes and candy bars do nothing but spike your blood sugar and add calories to your body.

Be mindful of what you eat. Try cutting down on salad dressing, which is rich in calories. Try and drink less alcohol. If you want a drink of wine, add some seltzer to it. This won’t just lesson the amount of calories per serving, but the bubbles will make you’re feeling fuller. If you drink full-fat milk, trade the entire milk for skim milk.

Not only should you be mindful of what you eat, but how much you eat. Yankee portions are much bigger than required. If you eat out at a restaurant, don’t finish your whole plate. Typical restaurant portions are much bigger than needed. If you fix your own food, fix smaller amounts. Put less food on your plate. Eat that amount. Then wait at least twenty minutes. If you are still hungry, you can eat more . almost all of the time, you won’t be hungry after the twenty minute wait.

Studies have shown that if you take your time while you are eating, and are mindful about eating slower, you will actually consume less calories. You are giving your brain time to catch up to your stomach signally it is full – so slow down!
